StockCrowd Pay is our payment gateway, built on Stripe: with it, your campaigns accept cards, wallets, SEPA debits and other modern payment methods, and the funds you raise go straight to your bank. In this article we explain what StockCrowd Pay is, which payment methods it offers your donors, what it costs and how to access its dashboard.

What StockCrowd Pay is and which plans include it

StockCrowd Pay is the payment gateway we offer organisations on all current plans: Light, Esencial, Profesional and Premium. It gives you access to the most modern payment methods without going through complex sign-up processes.

StockCrowd Pay is built on Stripe's infrastructure. With StockCrowd Pay you can:

  • Accept credit and debit cards, Google Pay, Apple Pay, SEPA debits and online bank transfers.

  • Accept donations in multiple currencies.

  • Access your own dashboard.

  • Receive the funds you raise straight into your bank account.

  • Give donors the option to cover StockCrowd's fees (the tip). We explain how in Allow Donors to cover Campaign fees - Tipping (StockCrowd Pay only).

Stripe charges a small fee per transaction, which depends on the payment method. For more details, see Stripe's pricing page.

❗️The person who sets up StockCrowd Pay and registers with Stripe must be a representative of the organisation or someone with significant management responsibility.

How to activate StockCrowd Pay in your account

To start taking payments with StockCrowd Pay, you first need to activate it in your StockCrowd account. You'll find the step-by-step guide in Activate StockCrowd Pay in your Account.

Payment methods StockCrowd Pay offers your donors

Once StockCrowd Pay is activated in your account, the next step is to add it to your campaign and set up the payment methods you allow, so that donors can give in different ways. We explain how in Activate StockCrowd Pay as Payment Gateway in your Campaign.

StockCrowd Pay's payment methods depend on how often the donation is made: it can be a one-off or a recurring donation. Some methods work for both and others for only one of them.

Payment methods for one-off and recurring donations

StockCrowd Pay offers these three payment methods for both one-off and recurring donations:

  • Debit or credit card. The donor enters their card number and the rest of their card details so the donation can go through.

  • SEPA debit (Direct Debit). The donor enters their bank account details; through Stripe, the system sends the instruction to the bank and, once it's approved, the payment is made.

  • Wallet. The donor pays with Google Pay or Apple Pay: after clicking the payment button, they need to authorise the payment. If they have it set up, they can use Google Pay and Apple Pay on both computer and mobile.

❗️Wallet payments (Google Pay and Apple Pay) are not available in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) campaigns.

Payment methods for one-off donations only

On top of the three shared methods, StockCrowd Pay offers these two payment methods for one-off donations only:

  • Bank Transfer via SOFORT. With this payment method, donations can only be made from a bank account based in Spain, Austria, Germany, Belgium or Italy.

  • OXXO. This payment method lets you receive donations from Mexican bank accounts. The donor needs to enter their name and the email address of their OXXO account.

Payment methods for recurring donations only

On top of the three shared methods, StockCrowd Pay offers one payment method for recurring donations only:

  • Bacs Direct Debit. It lets you receive recurring donations from bank accounts based in the United Kingdom.

❓Frequently asked questions

Which plans include StockCrowd Pay?

StockCrowd Pay is available on all current StockCrowd plans: Light, Esencial, Profesional and Premium.

How do I access the StockCrowd Pay dashboard (Stripe Dashboard)?

You access the StockCrowd Pay dashboard through the Stripe login: https://dashboard.stripe.com/login. StockCrowd Pay is built on Stripe, so during sign-up you'll be creating your Stripe account. Stripe is a world-leading payment gateway for online transactions (find out more at https://stripe.com).

With your Stripe username and password you can see all StockCrowd Pay transactions and customise your account. For example, you can:

  • Choose how often the money is paid out to your bank account.

  • Change the descriptions that appear on your donors' bank statements.

  • Enable other payment methods.

  • Generate transaction reports for your review.

If I already have a Stripe account, can I use it for StockCrowd Pay?

StockCrowd Pay doesn't use your existing Stripe account: when you sign up, it creates a new, separate Stripe account. During sign-up you'll be asked for your Stripe login email. If you enter the same email you use for your existing account, both accounts will appear in the same Stripe Dashboard, and the system will ask whether you want to import all its data. If you accept, the new StockCrowd Pay account will have all the settings from your previous Stripe account.

Can I change my Stripe login email after signing up?

Your Stripe login email can't be changed once you've signed up: it's a current system limitation, because your user is linked to your email address. What you can do is add more users with administrator permissions and give them other email addresses.

Also bear in mind that Stripe uses two-factor authentication, so you'll need a mobile phone number to receive a PIN that confirms your login.

Can I create campaigns and see how they look before completing my StockCrowd Pay sign-up?

You can create campaigns and use StockCrowd without any limitations before completing your StockCrowd Pay sign-up. When you first log in, you'll have a list of tasks to complete before activating your campaigns, and signing up for StockCrowd Pay is one of them.

That said, you need to have your StockCrowd Pay sign-up ready when you decide to activate a campaign: the system won't let you activate it without a payment gateway set up, because without one we couldn't process your donations.

What does StockCrowd Pay cost?

Transactions with StockCrowd Pay have two costs:

  1. StockCrowd's fee for maintaining the software infrastructure (+ VAT): a percentage we charge on the amount donated, which depends on your pricing plan.

  2. Stripe's fee for processing the transaction with the bank and sending the money to your bank account. It's a per-transaction fee that depends on the payment method.

How does the tip work with StockCrowd Pay?

The tip is the StockCrowd Pay feature that lets donors cover the fees. To learn how to activate it and how it works, see Allow Donors to cover Campaign fees - Tipping (StockCrowd Pay only).

❗️The tip only covers StockCrowd's software costs, not Stripe's fee.
