Activate the Automatic Fee Increase (IPC) for your Regular Givers

How to automatically raise your regular givers' fees every year by a set percentage: setting it up at Company, Campaign and Messenger service level, donor consent, and IPC data in events and webhooks.

Written by Davide Ferrari

With the Automatic Fee Increase (IPC), you can automatically raise your regular givers' fees every year by a percentage you set. This article explains what it is for, how to set it up at three levels (Company, Campaign and Messenger service), and what IPC data is sent in events and webhooks.

What the Automatic Fee Increase (IPC) is for

The Automatic Fee Increase (IPC) lets you automate increases to your regular givers' fees: you set a percentage, and the amount of their subscriptions goes up by that percentage every year.

How to set up the Automatic Fee Increase (IPC)

You set up the Automatic Fee Increase (IPC) in three places, in this order:

  1. Company: you activate the option and set the increase percentage.

  2. Campaign: you activate the option in the Donation box so that it appears on the recurring donation forms.

  3. Messenger service: you customise the email for recurring donations that accept the increase.

❗NOTE: the Automatic Fee Increase (IPC) only works for new recurring donation sign-ups. It cannot be activated for existing subscriptions.

1. Activate the option at Company level

The Automatic Fee Increase (IPC) settings for your whole organisation are managed from Company → IPC Management:

In IPC Management you will find these options:

  • Activate automatic annual IPC increase option for recurring donors: activate it so that the option is available when you set up your campaign's Donation box.

  • Increase percentage: enter a numeric value (a percentage), which is the increase applied to the recurring donation.

  • Informative text of the form: the text shown by default on the recurring donation form, where you can explain the increase.

💡 Automatic Fee Increase (IPC) example:

On 1 May 2024, a donor signs up for a monthly recurring donation of €50 with IPC activated.

If the Increase percentage is 10%, on 1 May 2025 their fee goes up by the €5 increase: from then on they are charged €55 a month for the next 12 months, until the fee increases automatically again on 1 May of the following year.

Once you have activated the option, set the increase percentage and added the informative text, you can activate the increase at campaign level.

2. Activate the option in the Campaign

For the Automatic Fee Increase (IPC) to appear on a campaign's recurring donation forms, activate the option in that campaign's Donation box, in the Data section.

By default, the campaign shows the informative text you set at organisation level. If you want to show different text in this campaign, you can edit it in the same section:

With the option activated, the recurring donation form includes a checkbox for donors to give their consent to the automatic fee increase.

NOTE: the consent checkbox for the automatic fee increase is unticked by default, and the donor has to tick it.

3. Customise the template in the Messenger service

From Settings → Messenger service you can manage the thank-you message sent for the campaign's recurring donations that have accepted the IPC increase.

Select the Templates customisation tab, choose the Recurring contribution registration in campaign with IPC template and edit it for each language you use in your campaign:

❗NOTE: the "Recurring contribution registration in campaign" template is for new recurring sign-ups WITHOUT IPC. For those that accept the increase, use "Recurring contribution registration in campaign with IPC".
